Female Cop Sues Chicago Police Department Over Sexual Discrimination Claims: Reports

Officer alleges she has been the subject of unwanted and comments from a fellow officer because she is a lesbian.

A female police officer is suing the Chicago Police Department over claims that she is being discriminated against because of her sexual orientation.

Jennifer O’Shaughnessy filed a discrimination lawsuit Aug. 28 in Cook County Circuit, Cook County Record reported. O’Shaughnessy, a lesbian, alleges she has been the target of unwanted sexual comments and touching from a fellow officer since July 2013.

When she went to report the incidents to her supervisor, no action was taken, the complaint alleges.

O’Shaughnessy, who is over 40, also claims in her lawsuit the department took retaliatory action by not moving her to another team and would not adjust her work schedule around her college courses when similar accommodations were made for younger workers.

She is seeking damages of more than $50,000.
