A Bolingbrook teen is in jail after police say he spray-painted a vehicle and shopping center fence with gang-related graffiti.
Police arrested Edgar Torrijos-Perez, 19, of the 600 block of Preston Drive, after responding to a call on the 400 block of Wellington Lane about a car window being smashed and gang-related graffiti on it.
According to the report, Perez was seen leaving the scene in a gold colored Toyota, which was later found by another police officer in the parking lot where Perez was arrested. Perez, police said, had marijuana and spray paint cans on him at the time.
Police also noted graffiti on the back of the North Commons Mall and the town homes fence line and dumpsters.
Perez was charged with felony criminal damage to property and was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
Bolingbrook Police Lt. Michael Rompa said although a gang presence is not established in the village, smaller cliques that tend to identify themselves as a group without a true organized foundation tend to think of themselves as gangs.
