Chloe Martin, 27, of Bolingbrook, has been charged as the driver of a vehicle that struck an  student on her way home from school Tuesday, according to Cmdr. Dan Tulley of the Lemont Police Department. Martin was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The 13-year-old student suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident, which occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m. near the  campus on 127th Street near Eagle Crest Drive.

The girl was immediately transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and her brother reported Tuesday on Facebook that she had some cuts and bruises but was otherwise OK.

Tulley said the student was struck while walking in a designated crosswalk where there is a stop sign, but no crossing guard on duty.  A crossing guard is stationed approximately 300 yards away at 127th Street and Timberline Drive, he said.

Tulley emphasized that both drivers and pedestrians must exercise extra caution now that school is in session.

“We urge children to cross any major street at the crossing guard locations, to assist children in crossing the street,” Tulley said.

Tuesday’s incident remains under investigation by police.
