Buffalo Grove Teen Critically Injured in McHenry County Crash

Three others were also injured when a car collided with a tractor-trailer near Richmond Sunday afternoon.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - A car collided with a tractor trailer in rural McHenry County on Sunday afternoon injuring five, including a 16-year-old passenger in the car who was taken by helicopter to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she remained in critical condition, police said Monday.

A preliminary investigation shows that at about 12:33 p.m. on Sunday, a 2010 Nissan Rogue was traveling north on Keystone Road in unincorporated Richmond Township when it failed to yield at the stop sign, pulling out in front of a westbound 2006 International truck-tractor pulling a fully loaded Walker tanker semi- trailer, according to a McHenry County Sheriff’s Office press release. The tractor-trailer had no stop sign.

The teen who was sitting in the rear right seat of the Nissan was taken by Flight for Life to Condell. A 43-year-old man was driving the car and was treated by Hebron Alden Greenwood Fire Protection District and a 42-year-old front seat passenger, a woman, was treated by Wonder Lake Fire Protection District. A 12-year-old boy who was sitting in the rear left passenger seat was treated by Richmond Fire Protection District. The man, woman and boy were all transported to Centegra McHenry with non-life threatening injuries. All occupants in the car were from Buffalo Grove, according to the news release.

The tractor-trailer driver, a 35-year-old man from Delavan, Wis., was treated and released at the scene by Hebron Alden Greenwood Fire Protection District.

Alcohol is not suspected as playing a role in the crash, according to the news release. Side impact and curtain airbags were deployed in the Nissan and all occupants were believed to have been belted at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigations Unit.
