Four Charged with Robbery in Buffalo Grove

Buffalo Grove police said a victim was robbed of $700 after the alleged robbers displayed a weapon.

Four Charged with Robbery in Buffalo Grove

have charged four men, including a Buffalo Grove resident, with robbery following an incident Wednesday night near Pine Tree Circle and Hidden Lake Drive.

Charged with one count of robbery and one count of aggravated robbery were John Mares-Coleman, 18, of 455 Raupp Blvd., Buffalo Grove; Kenneth Green, 20, and Robert Green, 18, both of 1131 Walnut Drive, Arlington Heights; and Jacobe Umoren, 20, of 915 Westmoreland Drive, Vernon Hills.

Buffalo Grove Cmdr. Jim Newton said the four displayed a firearm and forcibly took about $700 from a victim around 7 p.m. June 6.

“It was a replica of a real gun, but the victim thought it was a real gun,” he said. "Once we got them into custody, we determined it was just a pellet gun.”

Newton said the victim knew the alleged offenders. When police arrived, all involved were at the scene, he said. The victim sustained “some minor scrapes,” but was not transported to the hospital, he added.

Aggravated robbery is a Class 1 felony punishable by four to 15 years of imprisonment and/or a $25,000 fine. Robbery is a Class 2 felony punishable by three to seven years of imprisonment and/or a $25,000 fine.

The four men are being held on a $50,000 bond at the Lake County Jail. Their preliminary court date is July 3.

Editor's note: An original press release from the Buffalo Grove Police Department said that Robert Green was 19 years old. Police later said he was 18 at the time charges were filed. This story has been corrected.
