Local Foodies Reveal Favorite Place for Sushi

Minooka couple share local all-you-can-eat sushi spot and give tips for other great dining spots.

Local Foodies Reveal Favorite Place for Sushi

Paul and Christin LaLonde are foodies. And, as such, they are also big fans of the Food Network show "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives." They try to visit the restaurants highlighted on the show whenever they get the chance.

"We usually plan vacations around that," Christin LaLonde said.

She remembers that as a child, lots of trips included visits to restaurants specific to the place her family was visiting.

The couple travels to Chicago often to visit Christin LaLonde's favorite restaurants - Kumas Corner and Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder. Paul LaLonde lists his favorite restaurant a little closer to home. He loves in Yorkville.

But the couple agree on the restaurant we visited together - Sushi Ya in Joliet.

"The thing we both like about this place is, you can tell it's fresh," Paul LaLonde said.

I had been to Sushi Ya once before, but I took my order to go. Since that time, which was a couple years ago, they have added an all-you-can eat feature to the menu. For $14.95 for lunch and $19.99 for dinner, you can try a variety of items on a special menu and everyone at the table can try one another's selections. This was a great way to dine with readers, as we were able to share what we thought of each of the items. This was often different, as we all have different tastes. The couple said that is part of what they like about the all-you-can-eat menu as well. They can order their favorites, but each can try something new too.

They are both big fans of the Las Vegas roll, which is breaded and fried, so I could not try it. But, I did have more than one favorite by the end of the night. To find out which ones I would go back for, watch for Dining with Dawn on Nov. 21.
