
CHANNAHON, IL - The Channahon Fire Protection District announced that a dead body was recovered late Monday morning. Fire officials issued a press release at 1 p.m. explaining that members of the fire department and the Channahon Police Department responded to a call of a water rescue in the Des Plaines River between Channahon and Joliet. At the scene, authorities learned that there was a dead body in the water. "Law enforcement is currently processing the scene," the press release explains.
Later, on Monday evening, the Will County Coroner's Office announced that a male was located in the Des Plaines River and that the Illinois State Police is investigating the case. Identification of the body is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, coroner's officials said. An autopsy is scheduled to occur on Tuesday.
