Is Donald Trump Visiting Chicago This Week? Don't Hold Your Breath

UPDATED: Reports have been conflicting, but it seems unlikely the president-elect will be in the city over the next few days.

CHICAGO, IL — Although police had been preparing for a short, surprise visit later this week, President-elect Donald Trump will not be stopping in Chicago while he's traveling around the Midwest, according to reports.

Earlier Wednesday, the Chicago Tribune reported that Trump was expected to arrive in the city Thursday and leave Saturday afternoon. He would be staying at his Trump International Hotel and Tower, 401 N. Wabash Ave., during his time here, the report added.

But Chicago police have now told the newspaper that it is no longer preparing for a Trump visit after speaking with the Secret Service. The Secret Service would not comment about the trip, and no reason was given for why the visit was canceled, according to the Tribune.

A Trump spokesman would neither confirm nor deny the visit to the Tribune. Instead, the representative outlined the Thursday travel schedule for Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence. The two will be in Indiana for an announcement concerning Carrier manufacturing jobs staying in that state and then heading to a speech in Cincinnati that night, the report stated.

Sources also told the Chicago Sun-Times on Wednesday that Trump would probably only be staying overnight at the Chicago building while he visits other Midwest swing states as part of an election "thank-you" tour. Because of that, no Chicago events had been scheduled, and a visit hadn't been announced due to security concerns, according to the report. Trump will most likely travel back to New York City after the Ohio event, the Sun-Times reports.
