Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident on the Near North Side

Chicago police are looking for a white, mid-size SUV with an Indiana license plate.

CHICAGO, IL — A 23-year-old man was killed after a hit-and-run while he was crossing the street early Sunday on the Near North Side, according to Chicago police.

The man — identified by the Chicago Tribune as Phillip Levato, of the 1300 block of West 32nd Place — was struck by a white 2016 Jeep Compas at about 4:01 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, as he was crossing in the 800 block of North LaSalle Street, near Chicago Avenue, police said. After the accident, the vehicle fled south on LaSalle from Chicago Avenue.

Levato was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and he was pronounced dead at 4:35 a.m., the Tribune reports.

Police are looking for the SUV, which had the Indiana license plate BU3440. Anyone with information about the accident or vehicle should call the Major Accident Investigation Unit at 312-745-4521.
