Watch Air Force Dad Surprise Daughter at Her 1st Chicago Blackhawks Game

VIDEO: Find out how Master Sgt. John Lang made sure he didn't miss this special occasion with his family.

CHICAGO, IL — The first game a die-hard fan attends to watch and cheer on his or her favorite team is a special, magical occasion. But U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. John Lang was worried that he wouldn't be able to share that moment with his daughter, Madison, who was making her first trip to see the Chicago Blackhawks play at the United Center.

Lang has been serving overseas, and he wasn't sure he would be able to join his family for the game. It was a situation that had Lang and his daughter, who he describes as a lifelong Blackhawks fan, more than a little disappointed.

"It's just crushing that I can't be here for her first game," Lang said in a video posted by the Blackhawks on Wednesday.

"My wife sent me a text, saying, 'Madison’s not doing so good. It’s really hitting her that you’re not going to be here for that first game, and she was looking forward to it for so long, and then you couldn’t make it. She said twice that she didn’t want to come'," he added. "And my wife was like, 'You have to go. Do it for Dad. You've got to go'."

Fortunately, Madison did attend the game, and thanks to a little help from the Blackhawks, she was reunited with Lang after he delivered a brief message to his family over the United Center's Jumbotron.

"I'll be 90 years old talking about this …," Lang said of being able to surprise his daughter and share that first game together. "It doesn't get any better than that."
