Main Beach in Crystal Lake Placed on Advisory

Beach season ends with one last swimming advisory issued by the McHenry County Department of Health.

Main Beach in Crystal Lake Placed on Advisory

Just as the 2012 swimming season was due to close, Main Beach in Crystal Lake was placed on "advisory status" due to elevated bacteria levels shown in water samples taken Wednesday.

The McHenry County Department of Health conducted its final beach water sampling on Wednesday, Aug. 29.

, 300 Lake Shore Dr., Crystal Lake, had elevated bacteria levels that warranted the "advisory" status, according to a press release issued by Debra Quackenbush, community information coordinator for the MCDH.

MCDH will post an advisory or closed signage for beaches with elevated E. coli results.

The beach water sampling on Wednesday concludes the health department's seasonal testing program, which began Memorial Day weekend and official concludes Labor Day. For that reason, the water at Main Beach will not be re-sampled, Quackenbush said.

All beach water results and locations are readily available at the MCDH webpage  www.mcdh.info (click Environmental Health, quick links, “beach testing results”) or call 815-334-4585.
