No More Overdue Fines for Algonquin Public Library Users
The library has decided to stop charging overdue fines for its cardholders this month.

The Algonquin Public Library will become the first library in the county this month to stop charging overdue fines to its patrons, the Northwest Herald reports.
Starting on Sept. 15, the Algonquin Public Library will stop charging overdue fines to cardholders, according to the Algonquin Public Library. In addition, all overdue fines will be waived from Algonquin cardholders accounts.
Fines will still be assessed to those who lose or bring back items that have been damaged, according to the library.

The library will send a bill if a items is overdue for two weeks and will also suspend the cardholders borrowing privileges, according to the Northwest Herald.
Lynn Elam, administrative librarian. told the Northwest Herald the library should be able to absorb the less then $60,000 in revenue that comes from library fines by “effective management of resources.” The library has a $6 million budget.

The new policy applies to all materials checked out at its main library on Harnish Drive and its Eastgate branch.
