Sources close to the investigation told the Chicago Tribune police are looking into whether Gliniewicz committed suicide.

Many questions are still unanswered in the investigation into the shooting death of Fox Lake Lt. Joe Gliniewicz.

Perhaps the biggest question left unanswered publicly is if the 30-year veteran of the Fox Lake Police Department was in fact killed. Sources close to the investigation told the Chicago Tribune on Monday police are investigating the death as a homicide but are also looking into whether the death may have been a suicide.

Hours after Gliniewicz’s body was found shot dead in Fox Lake on Sept. 1, authorities told the media they were investigating the death as a homicide and were searching for three suspects. They continue to pursue the investigation as a homicide, Detective Christopher Covelli, the spokesman for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, told the Chicago Tribune on Monday but are also looking into every ”possible theory.”

On Monday, the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force continued to follow up on leads as they awaited for results DNA, gunshot residue and ballistic tests, the Chicago Tribune reports.
