Local Author Conducts Writing Workshop at Our Lady of Peace School
Author John V. Madormo visited students at Our Lady of Peace school and gave them some helpful hints on how to become a great writer!
Students at Our Lady of Peace School in Darien were treated to a special workshop on Friday where they learned all about how to become a great author! And who better to learn from than someone who is already a great author! John V. Madormo, author of the Charlie Collier, Snoop for Hire series spent the day speaking with each grade level to teach them the basics about what makes a great story.
The children learned about different parts of an interesting story and some tips on how to keep readers engaged. While discussing obstacles in a plot, Mr. Madormo explained that it's best for the obstacles to escalate to keep the flow going and to keep the story exciting. He asked some of the second graders if they knew what "escalating" meant, and one student explained that it was like an escalator -- it keeps going up. It sounds like we have some future writers on our hands!
Mr. Madormo had different workshops geared toward different grade levels and did a fantastic job of communicating his ideas in a fun and relevant manner. He even signed autographs for some students who purchased his books! What a fun day of learning!
