DC Sarnies will close its doors Feb. 8 because it does not believe there is enough demand for its kind of restaurant, according to a statement on the establishment’s website.
Owned by Highland Baking Company, the restaurant was originally opened as a testing ground for the bakery’s innovations and to bring what it termed a different type of restaurant to Deerfield.
“Unfortunately, the needs of our bakery customers have changed over the last three years, dictating we test our products in different ways than originally envisioned,” the company wrote on its website.
Nearly two years ago, DC Sarnies’ hamburger was voted the Village’s best and it is currently in second place in Patch’s Best of Deerfield competition which ends at midnight Sunday. Golfer Jim Furyk dined there the night before shooting a record 59 at the BMW Tournament in Lake Forest.
The company did not feel it could sustain the restaurant without the bakery testing component. “Try as we might, we have found there is just not enough demand for this type of restaurant in this area at this time,” the company wrote on the website.
