DHS Starts Late Wednesday

With a wind chill warning still in effect through 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, Deerfield High School will start classes at 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to a notice on the school’s website.

Deerfield Public Schools District 109 will begin on a normal schedule Wednesday, according to an email from Superintendant Michael Lubelfeld, as will Holy Cross School, according to an email from Principal Janice DiVincenzo. Chicagoland Jewish High School will also be on a normal schedule, according to Communications Director Tara Seymour.

Lubelfeld is also telling District 109 families to plan on school ending for the current term June 12 because of the four cancellations so far this year due to extreme cold.

“We cannot simply cancel a holiday or waive an institute day, these are regulated by law,” Lubelfeld wrote. “We cannot simply cancel a holiday or waive an institute day, these are regulated by law. While it seems simple, the laws that govern our schools are quite complex. Let’s hope we don't need to use all of the emergency days allotted and can end earlier.”
