Eric Gilbert, 19, of Deerfield was arrested Jan. 2 for unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, a Class 4 Felony, and two misdemeanors, unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Deerfield Police reports

Police spotted Gilbert sitting in a parked car in the 400 block of Hermitage Avenue, stopped to check on him and smelled the odor of cannabis coming from the open window, according to the report. Looking inside, police saw a back pack with green leafy material and obtained permission to search the vehicle.

After finding 35.5 grams of what police believed to be cannabis, an assistant Lake County State’s Attorney approved a charge of possession with intent to deliver, according to the report. Bond was set at $5,000. Gilbert is next due in Lake County Court at 9 a.m. Jan. 24 in Waukegan. If convicted, he could face between one and three years in prison.

Nicholas Dobie, 19, of Winnetka was arrested Dec. 28 for possession of cannabis after police observed him light a “bowl” that smelled of cannabis at the Red Roof Inn, according to Deerfield Police reports . After questioning Dobie, police learned what room he was staying in, searched it and found a “large amount of green leafy nuggets consistent with cannabis.” He was released on bond and will appear in Cook County Court at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 19 in Skokie.
