Plenty of high school basketball teams have three sophomores on their varsity roster, but not all of them play as big a role as the three on  squad this season.

Michael Alfieri and Eric Porter have both earned a spot in the starting lineup, while Andrew Ferdman continues to contribute significant minutes off the bench.

"It's a cool experience and it's an honor to play on varsity," Porter said. "The seniors have been nice to me. They help me out and continue to encourage me."

Through five games this season, Porter is averaging 9.8 points per game, scoring 19 against Palatine and 22 against Lake Zurich.

Alfieri represents the Warriors primary threat in the post. He currently leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 6.2 boards per game, including 10 offensive rebounds through five games. He is also chipping in 8.2 points per game, shooting 67 percent from the field.

After a  on Tuesday, the Warriors have started the season with a 2-3 record and will jump into conference play next week with a matchup against Maine West.
