New Year’s Resolution Ideas at the Des Plaines Public Library

Cooking, time management, exercise — they are all right here on Ellinwood Street.

New Year’s Resolution Ideas at the Des Plaines Public Library

The following information was submitted by Bob Blanchard of readers’ services at the Des Plaines Public Library.

I’m not one to make New Year’s resolutions. It’s not for lack of ideas or motivation. It’s just that resolutions made in years past went bust in a couple of weeks, or even days!

But maybe — for 2013 — I’ll do something revolutionary and make, stick with, some New Year’s resolutions.

Perhaps you’ve already made your 2013 resolutions. Perhaps you intend to, but haven’t put pen to paper yet. Either way, there’s no better place than the library to get inspiration for resolutions.

For me, maybe one resolution would be to give my wife a break in the kitchen by learning how to cook five or six new entrees, during the year that is. The library has dozens of shelves of cookbooks, so finding great culinary ideas to satisfy this resolution probably would not be too difficult.

I’d like to treat every second as a gift in 2013. One way to do that is to be organized and learn to be a better manager of my time. The library has several books written by de-cluttering and time management “gurus.” These are packed with time-tested tactics as well as new ideas to help me be neater, more efficient and, I dare say, happier.

Don’t ask me about the shape I’m in, but I think starting and continuing an exercise regimen might be a good thing for 2013. Like the total amount of weights in the gym, there are tons of books about exercise (and diet) at the library. There’s nothing like bench-pressing a stack of books!

Whether you have made your resolutions – or want to make resolutions – for the New Year, consider resolving to do this: Visit the Des Plaines Public Library when you can. We’ve got your needs covered for education, information, entertainment – and inspiration – all year ‘round.
