The following information was submitted by David Beery, spokesperson for Maine Township High School District 207, which includes Maine West High School in Des Plaines, Maine South High School in Park Ridge and Maine East High School in Niles.

An annual community favorite – the Maine West High School Prism Concert – will be presented twice on Sunday, Dec. 16, with the first presentation beginning 2 p.m. and a second performance set for 4:45 p.m.

Featuring West’s talented students in band, orchestra and choral ensembles, the concert is unique in that it features 90 minutes of continuous music. The minute one song ends, the next one begins, as directors and students make use of multiple performance locations within the auditorium.

Among the highlighted numbers for bands are “Over the River and Through the Woods,” a jazz version of “Joy to the World,” “March of the Three Kings,” and “A Christmas Can-Can!”  Choirs’ featured numbers include “Jingle Bells,” “Candlelight Carol,” “Bashana Haba'a,” “Do You Hear What I Hear,” and  “Silver Bells.”  Highlighted pieces from the Orchestra include “Happy Holidays,” “White Christmas,” “Veni, Veni (O Come, O come, Emmanuel),” and “Christmas Eve in Sarajevo 12/24.”

Directing will be Maine West Director of Bands Bernie Gerstmayr, Director of Orchestras Daniella Valdez and Director of Choirs Ben Avci.  The concert is presented by the Fine Arts Department under the leadership of Fine Arts Chair Pat Barnett.

Tickets cost $6 and are available at the door at Maine West, 1755 S. Wolf Road, or by calling (847) 803-5895.
