Arrests Made In Downers Grove and Westmont Armed Robberies

Three young, Downers Grove men are facing felony charges in two armed robberies that have suddenly plagued the western suburbs in recent weeks.

Jamarrion King, 17, Devonte Miles, 18, and Tallen Patrick Casey, 20, have all been charged with one count of armed robbery.

The three are accused of robbing a Downers Grove woman at gunpoint late Sunday evening as she got out of her car, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office announced.

The Downers Grove robbery was one of two that police were investigating that occurred over the weekend.

Casey has also been charged with an additional count of armed robbery for allegedly robbing a man of his wallet while in a Westmont parking lot.

According to the charges, the three men, who police say have been working together, approached the Downers Grove woman in her driveway around 11:30 p.m. May 4. Two of the men allegedly pointed guns at the woman and stole her cell phone. The men then fled the area, police said.

Casey also stands accused of robbing a man in Westmont the night before. Authorities say that an armed Casey approached the man in a parking lot around 10 a.m. May 3, and stole his wallet at gunpoint.

An investigation led by the Downers Grover and Westmont Police Departments, along with the state’s attorney’s office, led to men’s arrests.

“I am extremely proud of the phenomenal teamwork exhibited by the various law enforcement agencies involved in this case,” Downers Grove Police Chief Robert Porter said in a news advisory. “This was a very dangerous situation placing the public at risk. It was the quick and pro-active law enforcement response that resulted in the successful apprehension of three dangerous individuals.”

All thee men appeared in court this morning where DuPage County Judge Karen Wilson set bail at $300,000 for King and Casey, and $400,000 for Miles.

Their next court appearance is June 9 in front of Judge John Kinsella for arraignment.

At least seven incidents of armed robbery or attempted armed robbery have been reported in the western suburbs in the past few weeks, including Downers Grove, Woodridge, Darien and Westmont. Although there are discrepancies in modus operandi, police aren’t ruling out if the incidents are related.

“This is highly unusual,” Downers Grove police spokesman Lt. Michael Willison said. “We don’t usually get a rash of armed robberies like this.”
