Kids ages 3-10 can take part in the Downers Grove bike races on Sunday, July 26, but go at their own pace and with their own age group. Each of the four separate heats ends at the finish line of the racecourse at the corner of Main Street and Grove – just like the pros. The kid’s races start at 4 p.m. and staging will begin about 30 minutes beforehand.
"Our community is excited to be one of the venues for the 2014 Intelligentsia Cup," said Michael Cassa, president and CEO, Downers Grove Visitors Bureau. "We look forward to welcoming riders and fans to downtown Downers Grove – and we can’t wait to see the kids’ races.”
Kids will be staged in four groups
the 3-4-year-olds will go about 50 yards;
the 5-6-year-olds will go about 100 yards;
the 7-8-year-olds will go about 200 yards;
and the 9-10-year-olds will go about 350 yards.
A parent or guardian must register each kid in advance. Registration will take place from
10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on race day at the registration trailer located west of the start/finish line on Grove Street. There is no entry fee and each kid will receive a medal. Each kid who participates must wear a helmet.
The adult bike racing starts at 8:20 a.m. July 26. For more information, please visit Prairie State Cycling Series.
