Local Group, Downers Grove South Teacher Prep Students for ACT
Students can head into the ACT feeling confident and ready, with a course offered through Downers Grove Friends of the Gifted.
Downers Grove Friends of the Gifted will offer a five-session prep class, led by Downers Grove South teacher and private tutor Ealine Marinakos. The course begins Feb. 8 and runs five non-consecutive Saturdays, through March 15. A registration fee of $126 covers the class and cost of materials fee for an ACT Prep book.
"High stakes tests are daunting for many high school students, however with adequate preparation students can have confidence that they will reach their goals," according to the FRoG website.
The course will cover the English, Reading, Science, and Math portions of the ACT test. Students will learn test preparation as well as test-taking strategies. Students will also take practice tests, which will be graded and returned. Some homework will be given.
Enrollment is rolling, up until the first session. Classes are Feb. 8 and 15, March 1, 8 and 15, from 9 to 9:50 a.m. at O'Neill Middle School.
Marinakos has been a teacher at Downers Grove South High School for six years, where she teaches Global Connections and AP Economics. She also teaches PSAE Prep that is intended to prepare students for the ACT. She has been tutoring students privately for the ACT for seven years and she has a track record of helping students improve their ACT test scores. See her full bio.
