In Singles, Angela Avgerinos (18 wins, 9 losses in 2014) won her 3rd Sectional Title in a row (Doubles in 2012 and 2013, Singles in 2014) and she qualified for her 4th State Tournament as she won the Sectional only losing 2 games total. She was very focused throughout the tournament, especially in the final vs. Minkov. She was playing with a lot of confidence and her game was clicking on all cylinders. She played a very clean match in the final vs. a very talented player from Leyden. Angela finished 2nd Team All-State (9-12th Place) as a junior and All-State Honorable Mention (17-32nd Place) as a sophomore at the State Tournament in doubles. Also in Singles, Maja Shaw lost in the Quarter Final Match vs. Jessica Minkov (Leyden) 6-2, 6-1. Maja had a tremendous sophomore season with 22 wins and 12 losses for the Dukes. She has a very high ceiling as to how good she can be. We look forward to having her back in the program for the next two years.
Also of note, Angela Avgerinos won her 100th Varsity Match on Friday, October 17th. She now has 102 wins and 49 losses throughout her career playing varsity tennis at York. Angela is an extremely talented player and it shows how skilled she is in that she has won many matches playing both singles and doubles for us. She has been a very dedicated player to the program over the years and leads by example for our younger players.
