You may know Evanston’s Frio Gelato from local restaurants that serve it, like 27 Live. Soon you may be able to enjoy it at home, too.
Owner Sebastian Koziura has applied for a special use permit for Frio’s wholesale facility at 1701 Simpson St. to create a small take-out counter to sell gelato. He told the city’s Site Plan and Appearance Review Committee last week that the business wants to expand because customers had been asking where they could buy Frio Gelato.
The committee voted unanimously to recommend approval of the proposal to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Frio Gelato was founded by Koziura and his cousin, Enrique Schcolnik, who both grew up in Argentina.
