HOME DEPOT VOLUNTEERS TO TRANSFORM FAMILY PROMISE CHICAGO NORTH SHORE FACILITY FOR HOMELESS FAMILIES

WHAT: 15 volunteers from Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate-led volunteer force, will transform Family Promise Chicago North Shore, which provides shelter for homeless families with school aged children. Volunteers will lay carpeting in a family room; repair and replace bathroom sinks, faucets and stalls; and install toilets and shower walls. The projects completed will allow the organization  to continue helping families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless get back on their feet and provide a stable lifestyle for their children, all while keeping the families they serve together.

 

WHEN:  Thursday, May 1, 2014;  10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Family Promise Chicago North Shore is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit transitional shelter program that partners with 29 churches and synagogues in North Shore neighborhoods to return homeless or near-homeless families with young children to permanent housing. Unlike a traditional shelter, Family Promise Chicago North Shore keeps the family together and offers an individualized approach to return families to financial stability.  Since 2010, Family Promise Chicago North Shore has helped approximately 50 families find affordable housing, secure employment, learn budgeting skills, and understand and utilize community resources. Family Promise Chicago North Shore is one of 170 affiliates of the national Family Promise organization established in 1988.
