McGaw YMCA CEO Steps Down

CEO Bill Geiger is stepping down from the position he has held for the past nine years, according to a press release from the organization.

Geiger recently asked the Y’s board of directors begin the search for a new CEO, and the group has formed a committee to find his replacement.

“As exciting as the future is, especially for the next six-10 years for the McGaw YMCA and our community, it is time to begin a CEO transition,” Geiger said in the release. “It’s been tough to come to the conclusion that this longer-range future requires a commitment beyond that which I can make.”

Geiger will continue to lead the organization as CEO while the search committee considers applicants, according to the Y. He also said he and his wife, Beth, the President of the , will remain in town once he resigns.

“It is with very mixed feelings that we see Bill go and sincerely thank him for his nine years of leadership and service,” board chair Kirk Hoopingarner said in the release. “We are grateful for the many contributions that Bill has made to the YMCA and the impact his leadership has had on our community.”

The board’s CEO Transition Committee will hold its first meeting July 16, when members will establish an early timeline for the search, according to the release.

“The Committee and Board are committed to finding a proven leader ready to engage deeply in our community and lead the YMCA and our community to the bright future before us,” Hoopingarner said.
