Protest Held Outside Jan Schakowsky’s Office in Evanston Tuesday

A protest was called in the wake of a controversial video allegedly tying the congresswoman's husband to election rigging.

EVANSTON, IL - About 40 people, some who support Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, protested outside the office of U.S. 9th District Rep. Jan Schakowsky on Tuesday.

The protesters gathered at Schakowsky's office on Davis Street and led a brief march through downtown streets, according to Evanston Now.

While most of the crowd consisted of Trump supporters, the Trump campaign did not organize the protest. Suzzanne Monk was the primary organizer.

The protest was over a video released by a conservative journalist showing comments connecting Schakowsky’s husband, Robert Creamer, with an alleged plan to incite violence and help “rig” elections.

Among those at the protest was Joan Lasonde, a Wilmette Republican who is challenging Schakowsky for her seat in Congress this year.

Lasonde said the undercover video offers "clear evidence" that Creamer "ran a national program to provoke violence to suppress political opposition."

A spokesperson for Lasonde said Tuesday night that her campaign did not organize the protest, and only heard of it from Monk.
