The Beverly Area Planning Association’s Memorial Day Parade Committee is hosting a fundraiser from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at O’Rourke’s Office, 11064 S. Western Ave.
The Beverly Hills/ Morgan Park/ Mt. Greenwood Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony is one of Chicago’s oldest Memorial Day celebrations. The parade is organized by BAPA and the office of 19th Ward Alderman Matt O'Shea.
Each year community groups, individuals and families march in the parade with their drums, balloons, lawnmowers, family T-shirts, and decorated bicycles and wagons, making it a fun family celebration. Neighbors along the parade route deck their homes with American flags and other patriotic symbols adding to the festive atmosphere.
The parade follows the 37th annual Ridge Run on Memorial Day, stepping off at about 10:30 a.m. from 110th and Longwood Drive and proceeding north to Ridge Park, 97th and Longwood Drive. Memorial Day activities at Ridge Park include a Color Guard ceremony remembering the men and women of the United States armed forces, both past and present.
This year Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 26.
