Kansas Street Buildings Get Go-ahead for Repairs

The request: Approving a contract for demolition and facade repair work to three buildings on Kansas Street.

What it means: The village would make the required repairs--not to exceed $40,000--to the properties at 114, 116 and 118 Kansas Street. The bid for the work comes from Bruno's Tuckpointing and totals $27,400.

How did it pass? Unanimously (Trustee Doug Walker was absent)

Two New Businesses Receive Grants

The requests: Approving Downtown Retail Grants of $10,000 each for and .

What it means: The Downtown Retail Grant Program, a collaboration between the village and Downtown Frankfort Partnership, is in its third year and offers a maximum grant of $10,000 for new downtown businesses or existing businesses expanding by 50 percent of their current size. This & That owner Nancy Cartolano will use the grant for improvements on its property. Vicky Hansen, owner of White Street Interiors, will use the grant to renovate the former bank space she occupies.

Village, D157-C Split Cost of Flashing Lights

The request: Approving the purchase of yellow, flashing, school zone lights for Chelsea, Grand Prairie and Hickory Creek schools.

What it means: Although they will be primarily used for Frankfort School District 157-C, the lights are portable, and the village will be able to use them in other areas, too. The cost of the lights cannot exceed $27,000, and the district and the village will share that expense.
