'Winter on the Green' Returns January 11

The winter favorite starts back up with weekly frosty fun planned for Breidert Green.

Mark your calendars for a Frankfort favorite—Winter on the Green is set to return in just a few weeks.

The 21st annual “Winter on the Green” program kicks off Sunday, January 11 from 1 to 3 p.m., and will continue for six consecutive Sundays through February 15 in downtown Frankfort at the Village Green, located at White and Kansas Streets. Refreshments will be served at each event.

  • An “Ice Fest” (sponsored by the Village of Frankfort) with ice sculpture displays, ice sculpture demo, and heated trolley rides through the Historic Downtown District begin the activities on January 11. Bring your camera for great photo ops.
  • The “Frozen Carnival” (co-sponsored by the Frankfort Park District) on January 18 features, music, games, and snowman building of all kinds. Fun for the entire family.
  • The “Cardboard Iditarod & Winter Games” (co-sponsored by the Frankfort Lions Club) on January 25 provides an opportunity for families to bring their own cardboard sled and compete in an Iditarod race on BreidertGreen! Enjoyicebowling,snowshoeingandhockeygamesontheGreen! Agreatfamilyevent!
  • Celebrate our pre-game “Super Bowl Supreme” event (co-sponsored by the Frankfort Historic Business Association) on February 1. Free tailgate box lunch and outdoor challenges. Bring a can (or 2) of soup for the Township Food Pantry. Note: No dog contests this year.
  • Taste the finest chili on February 8 at the “Chili Cook-Off”(co-sponsred by the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce). To enter your world-famous chili, visit the Frankfort Chamber website www.frankfortchamber.com or stop in at the Village Administration Office (432 W. Nebraska) to pick up an entry form. In case of weather, event will be moved to Founders Center, 140 Oak Street in Frankfort.
  • Bring your Valentine sweetheart to taste chocolate fondue and peach cobbler cooked on site on the “Valentine’s Weekend” event (co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tinley Park-Frankfort and Frankfort Boy Scout Troop #270) scheduled for February 15.

“The Winter on the Green series continues to be a favorite event in Frankfort. Each event is unique and offers enjoyment for all ages. ” said Mayor Jim Holland.
