Cat Dies After Being Bitten By Dog Running Loose in Geneva
Police were called to assist with a missing cat that was found injured near Willow Lane over the weekend in Geneva.
Police were called to the area of Willow Lane on Saturday where they found the injured cat who had reportedly been bitten by a dog, according to a city of Geneva Facebook post. The cat was missing at the time but police officers were able to locate the owner.
The cat was taken to Valley Animal Hospital and later died.
There were two dogs running at large when the cat was bitten, said Geneva Police Department Commander Julie Nash. Police have since not been able to locate the dogs or the dogs’ owners, Nash said Monday.
She said police have not received any other recent reports of the dogs causing similar issues in Geneva.
“...we do not receive many calls similar to this,” she said.
Geneva code prohibits dogs from running loose in the city. The code states:
Each owner of any animal shall keep such animal exclusively on such owner’s property, except that any such animal may be off said property if restrained by a substantial leash, chain or other appropriate physical device and under the direct supervision and immediate control of a competent person. Any animal not under restraint shall be considered a stray animal, and shall be taken up and impounded.
