Geneva Man Found Dead on Golf Course
Longtime Geneva resident John A. Gaines was found dead in a creek at the Geneva Golf Club on Friday.

A 74-year-old Geneva man was found dead in a creek near the sixth hole of the Geneva Golf Club, 831 South Street, on Friday afternoon, CBS Chicago reports.
Foul play is not suspected in the death of John A. Gaines, who is a longtime resident of Geneva and the husband of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce president Jean Gaines, according to the article.
John’s daughter, Kristine Holtz, said his father had intended to visit the gym on Friday but decided it was too nice outside. He grabbed a golf club and headed to the Geneva Golf Club instead, according to the Daily Herald.

“He was healthy and happy when he left the house,” Holtz told the Daily Herald.
While the cause of death is yet to be determined by authorities, Holtz told the Daily Herald there is speculation that her father lost his balance, fell and hit his head.

Gaines owned Corporate Design, an office construction and remodeling business, but had retired from the business. He was an avid golfer, outdoorsman, the Daily Herald reports.
