The Geneva Academic Foundation made a little splash Friday night with its first-ever karaoke competition.

GAF made a little more than $2,700 — a very good night, especially for a first-time event when the weather was not at all cooperative.

Mike Dziadus took first place for his rendition of "Bust a Move," and the Best School Karaoke winner went to the very brave Adam Law, principal of Heartland Elementary School, who sang "Brown-Eyed Girl."

"I already sent an email to Adam Law telling him that he has to come back next time to defend his title in order to keep the Traveling Trophy," organizer Laura Zuzuly said.

Mayor Kevin Burns was the MC, and "celebrity" judges included Chamber of Commerce Communications Director Laura Rush, School District 304 Director of Curriculum Dr. Andrew Barrett and Geneva Patch Editor Rick Nagel.
