Volunteers Sought for Churchill Park Clean Up

Volunteers around the country will be coming together in honor of National Public Lands Day. It is anticipated that more than 170,000 people will volunteer to do hands-on projects. Glen Ellyn will also be doing its part to help maintain public lands.

National Public Lands Day is being celebrated nationwide Sept. 29, but the Glen Ellyn Park District is holding its event this weekend and is inviting residents, families and organizations to participate in projects at Churchill Park.

Volunteers will meet Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the park and complete hands-on work to improve the health of the wetlands, prairie and wooded sections of Churchill Park, according to the Glen Ellyn Park District.

Everyone is welcome to participate and those who plan to volunteer are asked to bring work gloves, if they have them. Volunteers who have saws or loppers are asked to bring those as well. The park district will provide tools, gloves and safety glasses. Closed-toe shoes and long pants are also required.

Volunteers should meet at Churchill Park, St. Charles Road, east of Bloomingdale Road Saturday. The work will be done from 9 to 11 a.m.
