Chicago Wolves VP and Glenview Resident Honors Firefighters Who Saved His Life

Wayne Messmer honored the two firefighters who saved his life after he was shot in the throat during an armed robbery in 1994.

Chicago Wolves VP and Glenview Resident Honors Firefighters Who Saved His Life
Chicago Wolves senior executive vice president Wayne Messmer, who lives in Glenview, honored the two firefighters who saved his life at Saturday's hockey game, according to DNAInfo.

Messmer and others wore special jerseys to recognize the Chicago Fire Department first responders who helped save his life after he was shot during a robbery attempt in 1994, DNAInfo reports.

Messmer has sung the national anthem at professional sports games in Chicago for more than three decades, according to his website. Along with the Chicago Wolves, he has sung the national anthem for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Bears. 

His book,  The Voice of Victorytells the story of how he recovered from being shot in the throat during the armed robbery in 1994.
