Take some time from the hustle and bustle of the holidays to help those less fortunate.

It may be a canned good, a coat or a few extra hours, there are several ways you can help those less fortunate this holiday season. Here are a few local opportunities.

The Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook Holiday Gift Program provides gifts to local families in need. Donors can sponsor one child, or an entire family. Volunteers are also welcome to help wrap the gifts.

Early drop-off through November 21 is Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at Youth Services, 3080 West Lake Ave; December 1 and 2 from 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. and December 3 from 9:30 a.m. - 9 p.m.

To sponsor a family, or if you know of a family who needs assistance, contact 847-724-2620. 

The Northfield Township Food Pantry, 3801 West Lake Ave., is in need of donations and volunteers. 

Unopened, unexpired perishable and non-perishable foods can be dropped off at the Pantry Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. or at these locations:

  • Sunset Foods: 1127 Church Street, Northbrook
  • AAA Lock & Key: 1730 Waukegan Road, Glenview
  • First American Bank: 2102 Willow Road, Glenview
  • The Book Market at Hangar One: 2651 Navy Boulevard, Glenview

Donations of pet food can be dropped off at Carriage Hill Kennels, 2218 Waukegan Road. Donations will be delivered to the Pantry on a regular basis.

Volunteer opportunities at the pantry are also available for individuals, groups and families.

Helping Hands of Glenview could use volunteers year-round to help drive senior and disabled residents to medical appointments, necessary shopping trips or personal care visits.

Helping Hands of Glenview is a non-profit organization aimed at helping local elderly and disabled residents.
