PHOTOS: Glenview Schools Commemorate 9/11

Students mark 10th anniversary of tragic day

In honor of the tenth anniversary of 9/11, Glenview schools took time Friday to commemorate the event with a variety of touching tributes.

students created a memorial wall filled with 4x6 cards expressing and depicting a variety of experiences, emotions and hopes regarding the events of that day and its aftermath. Students at wearing red, white and blue, created a human replica of the American flag with a peace sign in place of the fifty stars.

Because many students are too young to to have direct memories of the day, the commemorations of the anniversary serve as a way to teach the significance of the day and the ways it changed our country and our world.

"So much has happened to us as individuals and as a country as a direct result of the attacks that day," said Springman Middle School Principal Heather Hopkins as she addressed her student body before they observed a moment of silence. "Today Springman Middle School comes together as a united community, in a unique and special way. The spirit you show today is a physical sign of your pride in our country and in our school.  Students, you above everyone else give us hope for our future."
