Authorities ID Woman Killed in Volo Crash

The 22-year-old Lake Zurich woman was hit by a car while walking on Route 12 early Thursday, police said.

VOLO, IL - A woman killed early Thursday after being struck by a car on Route 12 in Volo has been identified as Stephanie V. Kostenko, 22, of Lake Zurich, Lake County Sheriff's Office Detective Christopher Covelli said Friday.

Deputies from the Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to Route 12, just south of Route 120, at about 2:38 a.m. Thursday where the found the woman deceased in the roadway, Covelli said in an earlier news release. An autopsy revealed the woman died of multiple injuries due to vehicle striking a pedestrian, police said Friday. 

A preliminary investigation shows a 2008 Ford Mustang was traveling south on Route 12 when the driver struck a pedestrian who was in the middle of the roadway for an unknown reason, Covelli said.

"Crash investigators are still working to determine why she was walking in the roadway," Covelli said.

The crash remains under investigation and its unknown at this time if charges will be filed.
