Coroner IDs Round Lake Beach Teen, Chicago Man Killed In Crash

The collision happened Saturday night in Round Lake Beach

ROUND LAKE BEACH, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has released the identify of a teenage girl and man authorities said died after the man's 2006 Pontiac G6 slammed into a condominium building Saturday night in Round Lake Beach. According to a release from the coroner's office, an autopsy was performed Monday on 13-year-old Mariela Marin, of Round Lake Beach, who died of blunt force injuries from the crash, preliminary autopsy results show. The coroner's office also said an autopsy was performed Monday on 35-year-old Santos Ayala-Ramirez, of Chicago, which indicated he died of blunt force injuries from the crash.

"The investigation continues by our office, the Round Lake Beach Police Department,
and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team," Dr. Howard Cooper, Lake County
Coroner, said, in a release sent to Patch. “We have been in close contact with both families and our deepest condolences go out to them during this difficult time. This is truly a tragedy."

Meanwhile, no one was home or injured at the two residential units damaged in the collision in the 1500 block of West Crystal Rock Court.

The Round Lake Beach Police Department was dispatched to the area of Long Lake Drive and Clear Water Circle at about 7:33 p.m. on Saturday, according to a news release from the police department.

Witnesses told police an orange 2006 Pontiac G6 was headed east on Long Lake Drive at a high rate of speed when it collided with the building.

The now-identified male driver and the 13 year-old passenger were both transported to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by the Round Lake Area Fire Protection District.

The Round Lake Beach Police Department is investigating the crash with the assistance of the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

As of Tuesday, toxicology results are pending, according to the coroner's office.
