Report: Village of Grayslake in Violation of Records Law
The village of Grayslake has set up requirements that appear to violate the state's Freedom of Information Act when it comes to requesting police reports, according to a investigative article written by Suburban Life Publications.

For example, in order to request a police report, you must fill out a form, present your driver's license and show up in person at the police station while the FOIA law puts few such hurdles on obtaining public records, according to the article.

The Suburban Life Publications article also pointed out the Grayslake form for requesting records says people should expect seven days for processing while the Freedom of Information Act says "agencies must respond to requests within five days."
