Planning on drinking or texting while driving this weekend? If you are, you may want to check your reflector light to make sure it’s in operational order, because the Illinois State Police have announced a Roadside Safety Check for the upcoming holiday weekend.
During the hours of 11 p.m. Friday, July 4, until 4 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, state police will be conducting a roadside safety check on the entrance ramp from Illinois Route 64 to the southbound Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355).
Officers working this detail will be watching for drivers who operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s licence, transporting open alcoholic beverages, or driving under the influence.
Alcohol and drug impairment is a significant factor in nearly 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. RSCs are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road. This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
There are lots of activities happening locally this weekend. If you’ve had too much to drink, stay where you’re at or call a taxi.
A $75 taxi fare is a lot better than ruining your year with a DUI, or possibly injuring or taking another person’s life.
