LOCKPORT, IL — The Lockport Township Fire District spent three and a half hours battling a fire at an auto recycling yard Thursday night, the district said. The call came in at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, and reported that several vehicles were on fire at an auto recycling yard in the 3500 block of South State Street.

According to the fire district, the first firefighters on scene found stacks of approximately 70 to 80 crushed vehicles along with a trailer full of tires on fire. The main body of the fire was knocked down, which allowed personnel with end loaders from the business to begin pulling the stacks apart to completely extinguish each vehicle. An engine with foam from the Citgo Refinery was also requested to assist in extinguishing the fire.

Mutual aid equipment from several departments covered the Lockport Stations during the incident. The district said no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is undetermined.
