Man Killed on Bike Was Pinned Under Truck: Police
Firefighters had to use a jack to get him out.

Police have released more information about a fatal bicycle accident that occurred Wednesday, Nov. 11.
According to Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory, shortly before 7 p.m. a 63-year-old man was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche when he turned onto westbound Washington from northbound Boulder and heard a noise. He got out of his pickup truck and found 57-year-old Joliet resident Raul Weeks pinned under the passenger side. The man then called 911.
Firefighters had to use a jack to release the man and took him to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox where he was pronounced dead at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday.

The weather and Weeks having on dark clothing contributed to the accident, and police aren’t sure which direction Weeks was traveling.

“We can’t confirm which way the bicyclist was going,” Gregory said. “Whether he was going the same westbound direction as the car or if he was coming on towards the car because the driver didn’t see him at all so he didn’t know which direction (the bicyclist) was traveling.”
Police are awaiting results from a toxicology test performed on the driver before issuing any citations.
Once all the reports come back, the case will be reviewed by the Will County State’s Attorney’s office.
Preliminary results from an autopsy performed Nov. 12 show Weeks died from multiple injuries sustained in the accident. A final cause and manner of death will be determined pending autopsy, police and toxicological reports.
