Traffic Jammed by I-80 Semi Accident

A flatbed semi-tractor truck that lost its load of six coiled metal rolls on Interstate 80, near Minooka, has one lane of traffic on each side closed as workers try to clean up the debris, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Bill Fuentes said.

The accident occurred at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday in the westbound lane near Ridge Road, Fuentes said.

No other vehicles were involved but cleanup is taking some time because the coils have to be cut into small pieces in order to be removed, he said. As a result, traffic on both sides of I-80 is jammed, he said.

Some motorists were exiting I-80 and using Illinois Route 52 (Jefferson Street) as an alternate. As a result, traffic was snarled on Route 52 from Houbolt Road on Joliet West's side through all of Shorewood.
