Lake Forest has secured $2 million of the $6.5 million needed to build a pedestrian underpassat the West Lake Forest Train Station, a project city staff have been working on since 2009, according to an article in the Lake Forester.
The recent death of Mark E. Worden, a 59-year-old from Chicago who was hit while walking across the tracks last month after being dropped off by a coworker, has reinforced the need for a safer crossing.
An underpass is also a requirement to lure Amtrak to add a stop there, which would be the only Lake County stop on the Chicago-Milwaukee route, the Lake Forester article says. The city is trying to find grant funding from state or federal agencies instead of spending local money.
Would you like to see an underpass added at the station? Do you worry about crossing the tracks there now?
