The Village will wind up saving nearly $200,000 after awarding the construction contract to Peter Baker and Son Co., in Lake Bluff, which came in with a bid of just over $1 million. The Village had earmarked $1.3 of the $1.5 million project in its 2012-13 fiscal budget for the construction contract portion. The $1.5 million includes a $1 million State of Illinois Department of Commerce of Economic Opportunity grant.

The intersection improvement project dates back to 2003 when the Village issued $2.1 million in general bonds. In 2008, the Village acquired 1500 square feet from , located at the northeast corner of the intersection.

As part of passing the intersection's construction at its June 25 meeting, the Village also approved securing an easement right for 4,000 square feet along the west side of Waukegan Road by Knollwood Club.

The completed project will actually create an angled connection from North Shore Drive across Waukegan Road to the south private drive entrance into the Knollwood Club, according to Village Engineer George Russell.

"The west end of North Shore Drive will point in a west-northwest direction, and the Knollwood Club's south entrance will point east, southeasterly," Russell said.

At Monday night's Village Board meeting, the village will consider approving a resolution for the professional engineering agreement with Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd., in Rosemont, for construction observation services.
