Wendell Evert Standley, age 90, passed away in Chesterfield, Missouri on May 19, 2014.
Wendell was the loving and devoted husband of 66 years of his late wife Ida C. Standley; beloved father of son Robert and daughter-in-law Patricia; and adored grandfather of granddaughter Kristin. He was born in Westfield, New York to Charles and Sarah Standley in 1923. He was preceded in death by his brother George Standley and is survived by his brother Allen Standley and sisters Edna Hyer and Alice LaGasse.
Wendell was a resident of Lake Forest for 57 years. He was a skilled mechanical engineer, serving as Chief Engineer at Johns-Nigrelli-Johns and later as Corporate Engineering Manager at Abbott Laboratories, garnering dozens of patents during a career of 43 years.
He loved golf, bowling, and travel, but most of all he loved the company of good friends. He was a kind, caring, good-natured man steadfastly devoted to his family and friends, by whom he will be sorely missed.
A memorial reception will be held at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 E. Vine Ave., Lake Forest, IL from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2014. Services and interment will be private.
