Majorie Stephenson Stone lived in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff for over 60 years.

Obituary: Marjorie Stephenson Stone was WW2 Code Breaker

Marjorie Stephenson Stone, 91, longtime resident of Lake Forest and Lake Bluff for over 60 years, died December 3 in Lake Forest.

Marjorie was born in Huddersfield, England where she was raised by her parents, the late George Albert and Mary Claressa (nee Hawke) Stephenson. As a young lady during WWII, she worked in code breaking operations for the Allied forces. She was honored with a Blectchley Park Commemorative Badge and Government Code and Cypher School Medal presented by British Prime Minister, David Cameron, in May of 2010 for her efforts. Marjorie was a member, trustee and Sunday school teacher at Grace United Methodist Church of Lake Bluff; she was also a member of Lake Bluff Women’s Club and a benefactor of the Vliet Museum of Lake Bluff History.

Marjorie was the beloved wife of the late George R. Stone (1981); cherished mother of George S. (Patricia) Stone of Wilmette and Elizabeth M. (Richard Theile) Stone, M.D. of Ann Arbor, MI; loved grandmother of Jennifer W., Natalie S. and Andrew G. Stone, Lindsay E. and Christopher S. Theile, PhD.; adored sister of Violet Quarmby, the late Rose Briggs, the late Alice Hughes, the late Bessie Grey and the late Frank Stephenson.
