Four Lake Forest High School athletes sign letters of intent on National Signing Day. Another nine have already made their choices.

At least 13 Lake Forest High School athletes will continue their sports careers in college as four of them signed letters of intent Wednesday as part of a nationwide National Signing Day event at the East Campus.

Three members of the state champion field hockey team will take their skills to the next level and two of them—Morgan Dever and Kate Sullivan—signed their letter of intent Wednesday binding them to the school of their choice.

Dever will enroll at the University of Michigan while Sullivan will compete for Colgate University. Teammate Isabelle Montagne has already committed to Duke University. Dever’s brother, Bo Dever, plays football at Michigan.

Joining Dever at Michigan will be Billy Bund, who will run both cross country and track for the Wolverines. Pole Vaulter Carly Schmidt inked her letter of intent to compete for Auburn University. They were full of thanks to those who helped.

“It was not just my effort but everyone involved,” Schmidt said. “They were always there for me to go the extra mile.” Schmidt, also a gymnast, was cheered by her gymnastics teammates and Coach Robin Straus. They will be trying for a fourth straight trip to the State Meet at 6:30 p.m. today at the Stevenson Sectional.

Bund thanked his coaches and teammates but gave a special compliment to Coach Nate Sweet. “Coach Sweet has been there the entire way,” Bund said.

Another eight Scouts made their pick at the first signing day of the year including two members of the. Lipp will play at Northwestern University and Zoubareva will compete for St. Francis College.

Two members of the Scouts final four football team, Andrew Clifford and Tom Kutschke, will be on the college gridiron this fall. Clifford will be at Drake University while Kutschke heads to Brown.

Golfer Ian Mankoff is set to compete for Pepperdine University and Sam Downey will play basketball at Yale. Swimmer Peter Grumhaus and diver Andrew Marsh will be at the University of Iowa next year.
